Fall 2009 Retrospective
Posted on 25. Dec, 2009 by Raquel in News
So, I am getting ready to head to Dallas for the Christmas break. My first semester at NKU was a blur of activity. I made alot of new friends and played in alot of concerts, not a bad semester!
Some highlights included performing with Star United Mini Corps at the DCA Championships and winning 1st place at the event. I look forward in continuing to work and perform with my “Star” family in the 2010 Star United Mini Corps, 2010 Star of Indiana Alumni Corps, and working with the brass staff of the 2010 Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps. I also had a blast working and performing with my KC family, the Fountain City Brass Band at the Brass in Concert Championships and the Scottish Open in the UK. I learned so much and had an incredible time on our UK Tour and rehearsals and concerts in the KC area. Special thanks to Joe Parisi, Lee Harrelson, Helen Tyler for their efforts that resulted in a victory at the 2009 US Open Brass Band Championships and the 2009 Scottish Open in Perth, Scotland. I also have to give a shout out to the cornet section, and in particular to my stand partner (in crime) Kenny, for taking care of all that music, etc. Thanks Kenny!!! Back at NKU I had a great time working with the NKU Faculty Brass Quintet, we performed a concert and did a few concerts at some area high schools. I look forward to our next concert this Spring!

This Spring will be pretty busy. I will be taking the reigns of the NKU Concert Band and we will be presenting two concerts in the Spring. I will also start the semester with 2 solo performances in January. I’ll be performing the famous Mendez solo, La Virgen de la Macarena at the 3rd annual Tri-State High School Band Symposium on Jan 16, 2010. I will also perform the first movement of the Hummel Concerto with the Northern Hills Bassoon Ensemble under the direction of NKU Bassoon instructor, Russell Hinkle, on January 27, 2010. I will finish the semester by performing with the NKU Chamber Orchestra on April 23, 2010. I will play Giuseppe Torelli’s “Estienne Roger 188 Concerto” in D for Piccolo Trumpet and Strings. In addition to these solo performances, I will present my first faculty recital on April 8, 2010 and will lead a NKU trumpet studio recital on April 11, 2010. It should be a fun evening of trumpet music! We will have students performing solos, a few trumpet ensembles, I’ll play a piece, and I’m sure we will come up with a great finale piece! Please come!
Happy Holidays!
