Cincy and Indy in July

Whew, I had a busy but fun two weeks in Cincy and Indy earlier this month. I played with the Frank Simon Band in 3 concerts in Cincinnati and Blue Ash. I also had the privilege of performing the great cornet solo, “Napoli” by H. Bellstedt. I met some great Cincinnati musicians including Marie Speziale (Rice University) who is one of my heroes! It was also a pleasure working with the Frank Simon Band conductor, Carol Dunevant! Here is a pic of us at the Cincinnati Zoo before our last concert:

In between rehearsals and concerts with the band I found a place to live in Cincy and took care of some business at Northern Kentucky University. I am really looking forward to starting at NKU! I will post pics of NKU, etc after I am settled a bit next month.

I ended my visit by attending a Star United rehearsal in Indianapolis. Star United is a mini drum and bugle corps. The corps has 22 members(brass and percussion) and is based in Indianapolis. They compete in the Drum Corps Associates (DCA) national championship Individual & Ensemble event that serves as the kickoff to the DCA Championship Weekend. Star United has won the last 3 years! The music this year is pretty cool, it is original music composed by Star Alumni Frank Sullivan, it is entitled Deja View. It was great seeing some people I hadn’t seen in 10+ years! It was also fun playing in a drum & bugle corps setting again, it all came back! I am really looking forward to performing and working with this Excellent group! :)

I drove back to Dallas (14 hrs) and am now preparing for the big move to Cincy in about 2 weeks. I hate packing, but luckily most of my stuff have been in boxes for about a year. Unpacking should be interesting! :)
